I am, She is, We are

A few years ago I got sick and ended up loosing a ton of weight. When I got better I gained back the weight plus some, which is great! Except that I went from fitting societal beauty standards to not. It’s taken me all this time to confront and heal from the experience. This series of work was an integral part of my healing process. These are blind contour drawings, which is a type of drawing that allows one to create without judgement. This form of drawing isn’t supposed to look good — that’s not it’s intent or purpose. An old professor of mine said that blind contour drawings are a way of turning off the “shitty comity”. So it just made sense to use them to stop judging the way my body looks. And it worked! I’ve been able to see my body as art which has kept me from judging it by societal standards.
