Tapestries

Below are the tapestries I created from 2020-2021.

I was exploring the various ways to piece things back together. All three of these were creating during the COVID pandemic when things seemed rather disjointed and strange. Upon reflection I can see that these tapestries were my way of working through those feelings.

For The Love of Trees

This tapestry is part of my exploration of the connections between femininity and nature. I created a piece that spoke to the ways in which girl-hood and nature are undervalued and trivialized by society. Glitter, pink, and tulle were how I chose to represent femininity and girl-hood while the paintings were representations of trees. By weaving the two together I created a tapestry of the story I saw play out in my own life and the lives of those around me.

A Tree’s Purpose

What is the purpose of a tree? The answer will change depending on who you talk to. A city planner or landscape architect might say to add to the beauty of a public space. A environmental scientist might say to release oxygen into the atmosphere and absorb CO2. A child might say to climb.

My thoughts surrounding this piece focused on the relationship humanity has with nature and the ways in which we manipulate it. This piece became as much about the process as the finished product.
